Gnome Man's Land

What is Gnome Man's Land about (Plot Synopsis)?

In the shadow of a suburban home, a fierce and absurd war rages among the ceramic gnomes of the garden. The hard-bitten veteran Captain rallies his dwindling troops against a new, soft-hearted regime brought in by Lily, a human whose preference for gentler decorations has led to the daily disappearance of good ceramic soldiers. As the west end is fortified with suspiciously padded corners, the Captain delivers a rousing, profane speech: they are a peaceful people, but enough is enough. The order is given to move out, and the gnomes launch a desperate offensive across the rain-slicked lawn, using a ramp as cover and diving into the water feature to outflank the enemy. The battle is chaotic and tactical, with pillboxes in the center yard and fixed guns that require careful reconnaissance. A young private with a legendary arm is called upon, and the squad coordinates by ear, helmets on and theatrics curbed, as gunfire erupts and a bazooka-wielding comrade unleashes havoc on the grey invaders. Amidst the smoke and shouting, the Captain realizes they must reach Lily, the human whose choices started this conflict. The mission becomes a frantic push toward the house, with Private Nils proving his mettle in a moment of crazy bravery. But as the gunfire fades, the scene shifts to a domestic interior where a couple bickers over lawn-mowing and takeout, oblivious to the miniature battlefield outside. A forgotten garden gnome is discovered in a box, and the neighbor's dog is up to its old tricks, leaving the humans to reach for super glue—unaware that their lawn is a land of gnome-sized heroism and sacrifice.
