What is Valyria — Episode 1 about (Plot Synopsis)?

In the waning days of Great Valyria, the Targaryens are branded cowards for abandoning their ancestral home and fleeing to Dragonstone. Within the council's marble halls, Aenar's children are summoned to conduct themselves with precision as the family's future hangs by a thread. Rhaela seeks out Aelyx for a conversation heavy with unspoken urgency, while Vaelara bears the brunt of their father's fury—Daenys has sailed away, and now a new wife must be found for Aurion all over again. The weight of expectation presses down on every shoulder, and the younger generation learns that survival demands silence and obedience. Vaerion, a serpent whose pride knows no bounds, casts a long shadow over the household. Whispers of his impending downfall ripple through the corridors, and darker instructions follow: once it is done, the boy must be disposed of too—but leave the girl. These words hang in the air like smoke, poisoning the already fragile bonds of trust. As the family gathers to choose a new First Voice after the beloved Aelyon has passed to the gods, the vote becomes a theater of ambition. He dared to invite them, and now they demand slaves—a transaction that stains every hand involved. Saera, caught between childhood and womanhood, insists she is grown enough to stay, but the adults dismiss her with patronizing warmth. Celebrations mask the rot beneath, and when Aelyx is summoned, the evening spirals into a blur of forced gaiety and quiet menace. A girl's protest—stop it—cuts through the revelry, and then a body lies still. Is he dead? What happened? The stammered confession, the command to go, the refusal to leave—all converge in a single, irreversible moment. In Valyria, power is a game played with lives, and the young are learning that some doors, once opened, can never be closed again.
