Heartwood - Heartwood

What is Heartwood — Episode 2 about (Plot Synopsis)?

On a world where the trees glow at a touch and the water runs orange, a tribe gathers to watch a spinning contest. Niala, a woman who once fell from the sky, holds the burning spore until it settles even, then tosses it clean over the flame without flinching. The elder rises to speak: one turn ago, the sky dropped a stranger onto their land, and they waited to learn whether she was ruin or healing. The world answered. Today, she is theirs, like a tree that pushed through stone and became part of the forest. Yet not every voice joins the rejoicing. Saturnock grumbles that a beast has torn through his garden beds, and Maline, listening beneath the celebration, hears something far off and wrong. She cannot name it yet. Tomorrow, they will sort it out. Far above, a cargo crew runs through pre-flight checks, arguing over a two-percent weight imbalance and old grudges logged in the report. They undock, enter the corridor, and jump. Then deviation strikes: an external force, source unidentified, hurls them out of the corridor and into a system absent from every chart. The hyperdrive needs three to five days to recharge, so they set down beside a body of water on a breathable world of unfamiliar fauna. The pilot steps outside, touches trees that light up under his hand, and feels watched. Thermal signatures move parallel to him through the undergrowth, four large shapes, registering no aggression. He does not resist. Then the strangers speak his name. They know of Ross, the pilot who came before, and of the tribe's language he built into a throat module. The pilot offers his shipboard AI, Navca, and the first human contact on this world begins in cautious wonder. But beneath the welcome, Maline's distant unease lingers, and the question the elder once asked hangs unanswered: is the visitor ruin, or is she healing?
