The Ape King

What is The Ape King about (Plot Synopsis)?

For a hundred years, the lowlanders have burned the forests of the mountain apes, and now Emperor Sul'khan of the golden city invites the Mountain King to sign a peace treaty. The old ape accepts, though his council warns that peace with men is a trap. He walks into it with open eyes, leaving his crown behind as a pledge. In the palace, the emperor's gold and comfort become a gilded cage, and whispers spread that the king has sold the mountain. His son, Burak, refuses to believe the rumors until he sees the truth: his father took the emperor's gold and stayed. Shame becomes the son's companion as he visits the palace every night, unable to reconcile the father he knew with the king who remains silent behind golden bars. When the emperor's army prepares to march in ten days and burn the forests for the gold beneath them, the Mountain King escapes with the help of a human woman from the arena, the one who once opened his cage. He returns home to face a mountain that calls him traitor and a son who has turned his back. Korg, the black ape with the white streak, challenges his claim to the throne, and the old law demands a climb of the great falls to decide who rules. As the emperor's nets close in and the mountain's people are taken, father and son must confront the lies that divided them and the price of a peace bought with gold.
