What is Hwarang about?

In a modern Seoul where vengeful spirits manifest without warning, a weary squad of supernatural responders known as Hwarang is called into action when a pregnant woman is attacked by a ghostly entity. The team, led by the stoic Hando and the charismatic dokkaebi, dispatches the threat with practiced efficiency, but the incident marks the fourth such encounter during a single leave period—a troubling sign that the spirit activity is escalating. Seeking respite, the group heads to Jeju Island, hoping the ocean air and distance from the mainland will offer a rare moment of peace. Yet even there, the past and the supernatural refuse to stay buried. Hando, haunted by memories of his former life as a fisherman, is reminded of old debts and lost connections when he encounters a familiar face from his sailing days. Meanwhile, the dokkaebi’s playful vanity and the team’s easy camaraderie mask the underlying tension of a job that never truly ends. As they navigate a retreat that blurs the line between work and rest, a new threat emerges—one that will test their bonds and force them to confront the ghosts that linger both in the world and within themselves. Grounded in sharp dialogue and atmospheric tension, Hwarang blends action, humor, and the supernatural into a story about duty, family, and the inescapable pull of the past.
